How can I get my cat to like sleeping in a basket?

My cat, who is 8, has always slept on the couch. Recently, I got a leather one and found a few little breaks in the skin. It looks as tho she's been doing that 'kneading' thing that cats do. So, I got her a basket. She gets into now and then but still prefers the couch. I want her to like the basket best. Is there any way to make this happen? Has anyone had success with this problem?
